For touring? If your talking all-day and day-after-day, figure 3.5 mph and go down from there for current,wind, bad weather, poor conditioning, etc. "Hull speed" means little once you get to a 14 foot waterline. Wetted surface does. If you're asking about racing, that's a whole different set of concerns. Bob

On a tour, for trip planning, we usually figure three knots. A person in good shape with good technique can easily go faster. It also might depend if you want to go for a long time and conserve energy, or a short sprint.
